In most cases, the diagnosis of "cancer" catches the patient completely unprepared. At this stage, clarity of action and understanding of therapy options are necessary. After all, early diagnosis and timely treatment can help cope with many types of cancer.
In Munich, there is a special structure – the Interdisciplinary Oncology Center – combining the expert experience of three institutions – two university clinics – Ludwig Maximilian University and Munich Technical University Clinic, and the Bavarian specialized oncology institution.
The Interdisciplinary Oncology Center ensures the coordinated work of oncologists engaged in various disciplines through participation in oncological consultations. They are conducted between clinics via teleconference systems.
Oncologists, surgeons, radiologists, X-ray specialists, pathologists and nuclear medicine specialists discuss therapy planning individually for each case together with colleagues from the relevant medical fields. Specialists from several clinics in one specialization gather. This makes it possible to solve medical issues not in isolation, but, on the contrary, using the experience of others. The patient gains access to the most current, modern and effective diagnostic and therapeutic methods.
The oncological consultation is held regularly, according to a specific schedule. Decisions made by the consultation are recorded in a separate protocol, discussed with the patient and provide an opportunity to monitor the course of therapy. Any person, both a German citizen and a foreign patient, can consent to participate in an oncological consultation and count on individual therapy for a malignant tumor.
Such conferences can be held, in difficult cases, without the patient's participation, only based on their medical documents.
Our company organizes the submission of medical documents for review at the Interdisciplinary Oncology Center Munich, helps answer your questions or questions from your attending physician and coordinate your treatment.
Since 2014, the Interdisciplinary Oncology Center Munich has been recognized as a Center of Excellence and is one of the best among 15 network oncology centers in Germany.
The choice of treatment method depends on many factors that are taken into account by oncologists individually for each case:
